If you are looking for hands-on knowledge about chemical enhanced oil recovery, water shut-off or conformance treatments, you are on the right page.
Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery – The Basics
Delve into the world of Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) in this comprehensive two-day course. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals that underpin the science and techniques of EOR. The curriculum encompasses a detailed exploration of various EOR methods, with a strong emphasis on polymer flooding (PF), surfactant-polymer flooding (SP), and Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer (ASP) flooding. Beyond the theoretical, attendees will gain valuable hands-on experience with lab studies, simulating real-world scenarios and understanding the practical applications of these techniques. The course also covers the critical phases of EOR project design and implementation. To ensure that participants are well-rounded in their understanding, the economics of Chemical EOR, including cost-benefit analysis and return on investment considerations, will be addressed. Whether you are an industry veteran or a newcomer eager to grasp the essentials, this course promises a rich and enlightening experience.
Polymer Flooding – The Basics
Duration: 2 days
Profile: geoscientists/managers with little knowledge on polymer flooding
Step into the realm of Polymer Flooding in Enhanced Oil Recovery with this intensive two-day course. Participants will journey from the fundamental chemistry of polymers, understanding their behavior, molecular structures, and unique properties, all the way to their practical applications in oil recovery. The course emphasizes the crucial screening processes to identify the most effective polymers for specific reservoir conditions. At the lab level, participants will delve into key analyses, exploring rheology to study flow properties and core flood experiments to assess polymer propagation with porous media. With a firm grounding in theory and lab work, the course then transitions to real-world applications, discussing pilot tests, advanced reservoir simulations, and strategies for field-wide implementation. The economics and carbon intensity of polymer flooding are also highlighted, providing insights into the cost implications, viability, and returns of such projects. Throughout the course, illustrative field cases will be showcased, offering a holistic view of the entire process from lab bench to oilfield. Ideal for both industry professionals and those new to the field, this course provides a thorough understanding of the intricacies of polymer flooding in EOR.
Polymer Flooding – Advanced
Duration: 4 – 5 days
Profile: geoscientists/managers with a good background in chemical EOR and polymer flooding
This course provides an in-depth view of polymer flooding from the selection of the field to field-wide implementation. Using one or several field cases from the attendees’ portfolio, we will go through the full polymer flooding implementation workflow and review all the fundamental concepts along the way with a greater look at the details: field analysis, candidate ranking, pilot selection, well selection, data gathering, lab. workflow, polymer selection and characterization, core flooding, simulation, pilot design, equipment, implementation, monitoring, economics, carbon footprint, field-wide deployment, tendering processes…
At the end of the seminar, the objective will be to have an actionable plan ready for quick field roll-out.
Water shut-off and conformance
Duration: 3 – 4 days
Profile: geoscientists/managers with or without knowledge about WSO and conformance
Embark on a comprehensive four-day training journey into the world of water shutoff and conformance. Beginning with an introductory strategy to understand and diagnose the origin of excess water production to better address it. Then the course delves into the wide range of existing technologies with a focus on chemical solutions. Participants will learn about gel chemistries, gelation, gel behaviors within fractures, and grasp essential gel placement concepts, and alternative techniques such as micro gels, preformed particle gels, etc. To tie it all together, attendees will study real-world field examples and confront operational challenges, ensuring a holistic understanding of water shutoff and conformance in practice.
